I know no real concrete details have been released but let's engage in a little reckless speculation. What do we think the lease costs will be for the battery?

All that has been stated so far is that there will be "Flexible" and "Fixed" leases. "Flexible" is 300 miles/month with an additional charge for extra miles, and "Fixed" is unlimited miles. They also said the price would be approximately equal to gasoline prices.

I think we an assume that there will be different prices for VF8 and VF9 due to battery size. Who's gas prices are they targeting? I would assume CA as that will be highest and where they are effectively based in the US.

I did see a European site list prices of 120 EUR ($138) for VF8 and 150 EUR ($172) for VF9, but that is all I have seen.

What are your guesses? I'll start

VF8 Flex - $99+$0.02/mile
VF8 Fixed - $149
VF9 Flex - $149+$0.03/mile
VF9 Fixed - $199

This is facts from what i got from an email

  • Flexible plan: customers pay a monthly battery subscription fee covering a driving range up to 310 miles per month. Miles over 310 per month will incur an additional cost equal to the excess range multiplied by the battery rental unit cost (initial estimation is 11 cents per mile)
  • Fixed plan: customers pay a monthly battery subscription plan covering an unlimited mileage range with the following subscription fee: $110/month for VF 8 and $160/monthly for VF 9.

310 miles/month?!?! Then $0.11 a mile? Seems like a bad deal.

Even the unlimited plan is too much for what you get. The originally said it was supposed to be about what you would spend for gas, except you are still paying for electricity on top of the fees above.

I found this on youtube , screenshot of the Specs of the VF9 , looks like there are Two VF9's one with Leatherette seating 8 way powered heated
and
one (VF9 plus) with Leather seating and 12 way powered heating , ventilated and memorized seats.
Both Versions have two battery options you. can choose , no price on that yet . . 301.4 miles or 422.5 miles estimated WLTP standard . targeted estimate.

VinFast offers two Battery Subscription plans to customers:
  • Flexible plan: customers pay a monthly battery subscription fee covering a driving range up to 310 miles per month. Miles in excess of 310 per month will incur an additional cost equal to the excess range multiplied by the battery rental unit cost (initial estimation is 6 cent per mile)
  • Fixed plan: customers pay a monthly battery subscription plan covering an unlimited mileage range with the following subscription fee: $110/month for VF 8 and $160/monthly for VF 9.
  • Customers do not have to pay for battery repair and maintenance as VinFast will cover these costs.
  • VinFast will replace a customer's battery if and when the battery's charging capacity dips below 70%
