Battery Purchase Option

What is the consensus here on VinFast offering a battery purchase option? I currently have a VF9 pre-order but there is zero chance that I will execute the order if they stick to their battery leasing business model. OTOH, if they offer a purchase option I am probably in.

It doesn't seem they are going to offer that. This was part of the reason I cancelled my reservation (availability outside CA/lack of service centers were the other main reasons).

I think I read somewhere or maybe it was from the CEO of Vinfast that they do plan on offering batteries with purchase at a later time. I think they say around 2024 or maybe 2025 you will be able to purchase vehicle with batteries or have option of still doing the rental/leasing of batteries.

Welcome to the forum @s7davis! I has been mentioned before. But it's not clear how VinFast would do that.

However, it’s not clear whether adding this layer into the VinFast equation will make the whole process just that much more confusing for EV buyers, especially if they’re in a region where it’s difficult to trade in a battery, although VinFast is planning to open at least 60 stores across the U.S.

The scheme is made potentially more complicated because VinFast says that by the end of 2023, 50% of the battery will be for rent while the rest is for sale along with the purchase of the car. VinFast did not respond in time to requests for clarification.

The VF 8 will cost anywhere from $40,700 to $48,000 depending on trim and battery pack, the company said on Wednesday, updating previous numbers shared at CES in January. The VF 8 Eco version battery can go up to 292 miles on a full charge and the Plus version can go up to 277 miles.

Here's the line from the VinFast press release.

VinFast's battery subscription policy is applied to all EVs sold until the end of 2023. From 2024, we will offer both options: leasing the battery or buying it with the car, with an expected proportion of 50/50 mix between both options.

Did you get your reservation fee refund? I asked since I have not got the $200 refund yet, I cancelled mine 7 weeks ago.
